The 21/70 combination is a fantastic set. The 21 excels at landscapes, cityscapes, street photography group shots and environmental portraits. The 70 is a fantastic portrait lens, landscape lens and at f/2.4 can get some pretty decent shallow DOF photos. All of this from an incredibly small package. I'd say that this is the kit I use 80% of the time and if I had to get rid of all my lenses but two, these would be my keepers.
All that said, if you've not use primes before, you've got some thinking to do. I switched to Pentax for these primes and couldn't be happier, although I've recently acquired the 12-24 and 60-250. Sometimes the convenience of a zoom is hard to beat.
I'd recommend you pick up a DA70 and play with that & 16-45 for a few months. If you don't miss the 55-300, sell it off then decide if you really want the DA21 too. I'd go this route because this gets you the smaller/lighter kit which is likely your primary concern, and also I find the 70 sufficient for the long end (other than the really telephoto stuff which is incompatible with small/portable lenses) whereas at the short end I usually want more versatility and bring along the DA15 &/or DA35 too. With the 16-45 you have all this covered with greater flexibility.
