CPL for DA 40mm limited?

Just picked up a new DA 40/2.8 from Adorama (super excited to start using it), and wanted to seek some advice regarding CPL use with this lens. As I understand, one may use a 49mm filter size (without hood) or a 30.5mm filter size (with hood). I intend to keep the hood on all the time, and use a CPL quite frequently, so plan to get one in the 30.5mm size. I usually use Marumi, but doesn't seem they make filters in this size. Can anyone recommend a good alternative? I saw B/W MRC at B&H for $85-90, but would love to keep it a little cheaper than that if possible. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brandon

With DA 40mm limited, you ca use both the filter and the hood at the same time. The hood attaches to the lens with a stadard 49mm thread, so you can screw it on top of the filter. That's what I have done and like you have found out, it is difficult to find 30.5mm filters.

DA 21 limited is a different case. You simply can not use the lenses own hood with a CPL filter.

Exactly. Just screw the hood into the filter and turn the hood. Works like a charm.

Awesome! Glad to hear I won't have to buy another filter size, but can just use the same 49mm that I'll use for my DA 15/4.

Thanks,
Brandon

You can, but I have noticed vignetting with the hood + filter attached. Not really a big deal, but I like this lens in particular best naked.

I've used a 49mm ND filter on the 15 & 21, and a 49mm CPL filter on the 40 & 70. The only issue is with the 21 I can't use the hood with a filter, so it flares if it's pointed towards the sun.
