can someone compare it with the DA* 300mm 4? Is the sdm really useful?

Thanks! Is the sdm motor faster than a conventionnal screwdrive lens?

No idea, because SDM speed differs between lenses. Like my DA*55mm is slow like a dead cat. I don't own a DA*300, but my 50-135 isn't a fast thing either. Sigma's HSM very much faster then SDM.

It also depents on the turn you can make from near to infinity on the lens. It it is small, like in DA40mm then you lens is fast in AF, but when you can turn it like 270 degrees then it will be a slow lens.

I'll be using a canon 70 200 f4 with a 40d at a hockey game tomorrow, I'll try to shoot the pentax alongside the canon to see how it will be!
