What do you think?
Square bokeh. Very innovative, I like it. I have an MC Industar-61 LZ M42 50mm2.8 Macro. At some settings the aperture blades form a star shape. Really makes for unique bokeh effects.

So, how did you modify the blades on your lens to get the square shape?

Sounds good! Did you post any samples on these forums?

Yes I did. Here are some again.

This one was inspired by the member here who introduced me to it. As always I must give him credit as without his photo I may never have known about this neat little gem. He is Vladimir from Bucharest, his member profile is here: kcobain1992 - View Profile - PentaxForums.com and you can view the photo of his that inspired my plagiarism here: https://flic.kr/p/dDwjvH .

Vladimir is very good with his tools, and his innovative work a great source of inspiration for his peers.

My view through the viewfinder has forever been changed.

I snagged the lens off of eBay for less than $50, shipping included. It was brand new, never used, in the plastic cup that the Russian lenses seem to come in new. The lid screws on and doubles as the rear lens "cap", but having adapted the thread mount to PK I keep it in a soft lens bag now.

The glass is very good too. It did take some getting used to as the aperture ring is at the front of the barrel, where one's fingers usually find the focus ring. Oh well, a minor adjustment, easy squeezy.

I have some other shots done with this lens, but they don't have the points of light like the Christmas one does. They do show the great quality of this lens though, and the colors are very good too. These shots have not been changed from how they came out of the camera, except that I may have cropped or straightened them.

New "Franken-lens"/projector lens variation here ... (xpost)

Took a Pentacon AV 80/2.5 projector lens and inserted it into an entirely de-glassed Helios 44-2 body in order to have the focus helicoil and an 8-blade aperture.

Here's what it looks like and a few SOOC sample images taken today late ...shot at various apertures (@ about f/4-ish) and focal lengths. I think that I will leave this creation as is ... maybe more images later.

That's awesome, if a bit cheesy.
How does it transition from round to star, does it just jump from one to the other or does the shape slowly emerge as the aperture changes?

It is gradual, and at some point in between is hexagonal.

Quite agree, I've had lots of these but rarely used them. definitely the best value for money lens there is.

Agreed ... and the M39 13-blade version is just wonderful.
Again, Agreed. I'm trying to find a #000 version but it's difficult.
