Interesting bokeh, ChristianRock!!! I have this 50mm/f1.7 but have never gotten this unusual OOF rendition of background. Were there blades of grass behind your subject?

One thing I love about some of these lenses is the unpredictability of what could possibly come in. I guess that's what makes bokeh such an inexhaustible topic. One only has to see the number of postings in this thread --- the last one was 4291. And daily I see additions.
Behind the flower, there were just more flowers... so it was surprising to find this. I have other similar pictures where it does the same thing. I think the lens behaves differently when you focus close. This was at MFD, and it was a plant with several more flowers. You can't tell because the other flowers got blurred only an inch or two behind the subject one.

This one is not MFD, and the background is further away, so the bokeh is much more pleasant (same lens, M 50 1.7):

And this is bokeh from the Tokina 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 AF193 lens. I find the bokeh fairly pleasant, especially considering it's a zoom.

Pretty sure I've achieved some subject isolation here.

A new "Franken-lens" project here using a Boyer Paris Onyx 100/2.8 projector lens stuffed inside a de-glassed Makinon 135/2.8 lens body ...to have an aperture and a focus throw. It will focus down to about 15 inches and is infinity capable.

First tests and most here at about "f/4" to "f/5.6" on the de-clicked aperture ring ... and last one wide open of plants in a row.

Here's some interesting bokeh from the Rokinon (Tokina) 24mm f2.8. Interesting because I took this picture at f/11 and MFD

That came out really good in B&W! That lens might be a better alternative to the ubiquitous SMC-F 35-70mm, it seems to be sharp enough wide open and gives you f/2.8 .

Thanks. It's a fine optic, but unlike the small & light F35-70, it's a beast of a lens. A big chunk of glass and metal! I probably don't use mine enough mainly for that reason. But to me, the IQ is near prime quality and if you can live with the heft and the long MFD, it can deliver the goods. The sharpness and color rendering are wonderful.
