Not my usual bokeh lens...

SMC-K200 at f8

Same lens, different focus. Starting to see the white fence in the background.

And another hummingbird. This one has resorted to catching raindrops on its tongue...time to fill the feeder.

Another page of stunningly gorgeous bokeh shots.....even the squirrels refused to compete with anything on this page...which has to be good news!

Matt...can you tell me more about that Helios lens...I am interested in buying one...what about adapters etc.?

Regards!

+1 to that!

Rupert, I would suggest the authentic Asahi Pentax m42 to K adapter. Some folks have good results with the cheaper knock-offs, but the real deal has been trouble-free for me. Some of the knock-off versions can get stuck in the mount . Just do a search here - lots of discussion on the topic.

Thanks! I've had the lens for a while but only recently tried it on the K-1 and it's even better than on crop gear!

I bought the lens, a Helios 44-2 on eBay. It's 58mm f/2 and there are tons of old ones out there to buy. Mine looks terrible and has a bent filter ring but I think that adds to the charm. The 44-2 is a M42 mount so you need an adapter. I have a cheap one that I removed the spring locking mechanism from because that is what can get stuck. So it doesn't click when I mount it on the camera but that doesn't really matter. I glued the adapter to the lens with Loctite since I don't have any other M42 lenses and wanted this to be easy to mount and unmount.
There is also a K mount version of the Helios 44 I think. It costs more and for this kind of lens I like to go cheap. The cheap ones have more character!
I think it was around $80 and shipped from the Ukraine.

It's not a particularly easy lens to use but it's fun to make it flare or get the swirly bokeh. Especially on full frame!

Thanks for the fast response and the great information! Those shots you posted are wonderful...I doubt I can ever come close, but when I get one I'm gonna try!

That third one is stunning! Do I have a spider to thank or is it the sheer speed of the author?

You've saved a great moment for eternity here David! Do you happen to know the species?

Now, my humble addition to the bokeh-land of PF

--x-post from projector lenses club--

I am still passing my days playing with these old projector lenses. These last weeks, I've been warming up to seriously start adapting this one, Som Berthiot 105mm f/2.8

Still no diaphragm installed so I am using it wide open.
Here are some of the first exposures.

Some pretty neat bokeh there Paul! Sharpness dropped off fast and nicely!

Last post on the previous page is worth turning back for a look...in case anyone hasn't!

Animals can give lessons in life if we just watch and listen.....

"I'm not talking to you...again!"

"All I said was you are getting a little chunky."

"Can we just cuddle and forget it? I still love you chunky or not!"

Young whippersnappers, listen up! Never ever tell a woman she is getting chunky, even if she asks. She will not forget it and will never forgive you, no matter how much you try to explain your answer or apologize. Take it from an old guy that knows that to be a fact of life!
Even if you need a forklift to take her dancing, just tell her it is because of your "bad back" and has nothing to do with her size! Trust me...I've got this right!

Regards!

Was going through vacation photos and came across this. I'm not sure if something caught her attention, or if her mother was taking a cell phone picture of her, or something.
