x-post from projector lens club.

It looks like a lens I am going to like. Benoist Berthiot Panastar S 90mm f/2.5, modified to m52 mount and mounted on m42-m52 (39-90mm throw) focusing helicoid.

What does a "Benoist Berthiot Panastar S 90mm f/2.5, modified to m52 mount and mounted on m42-m52 (39-90mm throw) focusing helicoid" look like when it's all together? Nice photograph of the flower.

Hello to all,

I am a big fan of Pentax. I am using Pentax LX with 50mm 1.4, 1.7 and Pentax 645N with 75mm f2.8 and 105mm f2.4 with adapter. I am also a bokeh addict. I get my best bokehs with 50mm f1.4 and 105mm f2.4

Generally pentax lenses gets "creamy bokeh". But I've love the bokeh characteristic of Contax 645 with Zeiss 80mm f2

This one should be Canon 50mm f1.4:

I don't know how to call this bokehs but they are sharp and bokehs are overs other bokehs. How to get bokeh like these with Pentax, what do you recommend?

Nice effects I especially like the effects created with the Star shape template. I think the effect would be quite dramatic on the background with other intricate shapes like a snowflake.
I'm curious where exactly you mounted the template. Was it mounted like a filter on the front of the lens or behind the back of the lens?
Hi ... I just made a few images to illustrate maybe better how the templates are inserted inside the lens. Just remove the rear element group and insert.

The first 2 image are the "star bokeh" template which I black Sharpie'd since the plastic was a clear gray color (maybe I will try later with another not blacked-out). Here the (badly) hand-cut outer circumference is wedged just behind the non-modified aperture. Completely reversible and different template patterns could be substituted ... like a triangle, which will be my next effort.

The last 2 images are the "square bokeh" template, which was crudely free-hand made cut ... a better one later.

Hope that this explains a bit, if not shoot me a PM.

Thanks! I had my cutout on the lens filter, and had a barely noticeable effect. I'll give it another go.

Reminds me of that old maxim: I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Nice pictures!

Been trying to shoot some fresh bokeh doves for you guys....I know how you love them!

Not much luck, but I did get this little girlie Cardinal yesterday...

Of course, in no way does she match the beauty of a handsome squirrel!

Regards!

I'm too much of a bokeh novice to answer your final question, but the pictures you linked are quite amazing. The first one, of the bride, strikes me as "sparkly" but there might be a different term others would use to label that kind of bokeh. The second one, the picture I like best, that fascinates me the most, has what I can only think of calling a "pebbly" texture to the out-off-focus background highlights, almost as if some kind of texture screen was used. What lens was used for that? I'm not sure if it is your picture or an example of something you would like to be doing, Can you tell us more?
