And Paul, too... guys its been 3 years, nearly, since he went. I have Toby now and its all good. Tom was a fabulous cat, a really good little friend, and I miss him, but the time for sorrow has passed. I'm sorry I didnt make that clear in my post, I feel really embarrassed now.

We had a particularly sweet cat named Mycelium, a special favorite of my wife. At about 12 years of age she just disappeared one day. We strongly suspect she was taken by a coyote that was prowling the neighborhood at the time. We saw it, as did our dogs who barked manically when it went up through the woods behind the house, paying no attention whatever to the racket. At least four other cats went missing nearby within the space of a few weeks. Mycelium (AKA "Moldy") was far too trusting, and not very fast, to outwit or outdistance a coyote. More than ten years later my wife still misses that cat.

Some medium format bokeh

From garden this morning . . .

KIT: Pentax 645D with Arsat B 250mm f 5.6. This Arsat B lens is a bit of a sleeper. I got it new for $60 including hood, caps, and soft case, not realizing that it is a medium format lens. It fits on the 645D using two adapters: Arsat B to Pentacon 6, and then Pentacon 6 to Pentax 645. It is a great lens value, and is giving lots of shots, such as the two posted here, as JPEGs right out of the camera, no post processing required. MFD is about 4 feet, allowing closeup shots like the two attached, both of which are a MFD.

Don't be Sue. It's all good.

Your photo of him is awesome.

I've had two cats over the years, at different times, both female and both black. Both of them simply never came home from hunting in the woods, after being part of my life for many years. I suspect that a coyote or a bald eagle took them, but don't know for sure. Although they both would come in the house, I never had a cat box and had them trained to ask to be let out for their business.

The second one was a feral kitten born to a feral mother, born on the day that our local volcano Mount Saint Helens erupted. I managed to get her accustomed to me and she was a great companion. She was always very aggressive towards dogs, chasing wandering canines away when they wandered onto my property. Also a great hunter she brought me many 'gifts'.

It has been nearly 20 years since she went out and never returned, and I still miss her.

I would put money on an owl before a bald eagle. The latter really like fish, and are a bit big and ungainly to pick something off the floor of a forest.

It is possible an owl may have done it. There are several varieties here, a couple as large as the eagles.
