Most of the caffenol images I have seen have more of a sepia tone to them. Curious how you keep these so silvery?
Hi and thanks a lot.
The silvery tones are IMHO due mostly to the scanner, an Epson V600, which treats them like any other B&W negative (which i select as opposed to a color negative or color positive) ... but when I Caffenol develop color negative film, I scan it as a "color negative" and it still comes out pretty much as a B&W.
But honestly if I put a Ilfotec LC29 developed B&W negative next to the same brand of B&W negative developed in Caffenol, one does not see much difference. Plus Lr4 keeps it B&W in how I do my personal minor "post" adjustments.
Paper printing is another story from my experiences ... we did it a few times at my photo club. The Caffenol developed paper will sometimes take a tint ...at least what little I saw with the paper used. I really did not warm up to Caffenol printing, because one cannot see well the image as it develops as opposed to standard chemistry.
My home darkroom is almost operational for B&W printing and I do not see myself doing much Caffenol there ... maybe a couple of times for fun, but that's about it for me. Cheers, J
