Faulty tempering? Maybe. But the truck has almost 400,000 miles on it, and is just over a year old. Why didn't it fail sooner?
Polar Bear?
Shotgun pellets
exiting the truck? Nah. Scatterguns are too big and too messy for use from inside a vehicle. I did, however, wonder if some kid with a BB gun or pellet gun was engaged in mischief of some kind.
But I will never know.

Me.
My driver's side door window.
About 1 PM local time.
On I-64, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
I still am not sure why. I was just rolling along, listening to the radio (NPR, Bob Edwards), letting lunch settle (BLT, fries, iced tea). When it happened I wasn't expecting it (do we ever expect stuff like that?), and it just suddenly exploded. Glass went everywhere.
It actually made a very loud boom too.
And since the outside temperature was about 28°F, and I was going about 69 miles an hour, it suddenly got very cold inside the cab.
I got off the road, called the Mother Ship, and coordinated replacement.
There was glass everywhere, the passenger seat, the dash, the sleeper, in my clothes and shoes.
And I will never know why it happened.
The company owns about a dozen of this same model truck, and it has happened a time or two before.
Crazy.
