Originally posted by IgorZ Beautiful shots! While slightly off topic, I see you have both K50 f1.2 and DA* 55, how would you compare the two? I keep wondering which one should be on my list...
Thank you for your kind words Igor and I wouldn't say its off topic since its a club and the lenses in question both produce unique bokeh. I do remember it was you who posted the ebay deal for the very K50/1.2 I have and yes I still have it as well as quite a few more 50s now so apparently I really like that FOV. As to which one should be on your list I have a long answer and a short answer...
The long:
I cannot compare the 2 lenses since they are very different in how they reproduce an image. Obviously the way they handle is quite different but I see that you own and appreciate many classic lenses so the K50/1.2 is right up your alley. But if you were looking to get something more modern then the *55mm is wonderful both on APSc and FF although I use it more on FF than I ever did when I had crop cameras. They both have a standard MFD for a 50mm lens and that is the only trait of the *55mm that I wish were different. Were it a macro (at least 1:2) it would be a perfect lens on FF in the way that the DA35mm ltd macro was on APSc for me. Other than that I find the *55mm versatile and therefore very useful, especially since having only taken this one lens with me for a month long trip to SE Asia. I can see why so many here like doing those single in a month challenges because by the end of the month you know a particular lens inside and out. It does vignette until you stop it down a bit but that can be corrected for anyways and sometimes the nature of an image may not require any correction.
Having said that, I would not let my K50/1.2 go! That is just a gorgeous lens in terms of its construction, handling, and classic image rendering. It is not as versatile or useful as the *55 to me but that is only because it slows the image making process down...and that can be a good thing when you have the time. Although you can definitely take your time with the *55 (which is what I do when doing close focus shots anyways), if your multitasking and don't want to change lenses then its ready to go for anything...which is very useful if you are traveling with family who like having photographs taken and therefore need to be quicker about the process sometimes. When I am on my own I feel the most creative and enjoy taking my time with my hobby so I love what lenses like the k50/1.2 can bring to the table. So the long answer is that I would keep them both, I enjoy using each of them for different reasons.
The Short:
Both should be on your list if you appreciate their differences and you have the opportunity to acquire both.
BTW I just recently picked up a lens I had been wanting for a few years (Voigtlander Nokton 58mm) and although I haven't had the time yet to really work with it, the few photos I've taken with it have proven to me that I was right to want that lens. Too many 50s...some are going to have to go...but not my K50/1.2!

Pulled out my rediscovered little A50 2.8 Macro. Haven't used it in ages...sure need some practice with it.....
Thank you Rupert! The *55mm can do 3D sometimes
Nice work with your A50 although if that's Otis there he looks a bit peeved.
BTW I couldn't resist @Kerrydown femme fatale, I got one moving in with me soon...the only femme fatale my wife will allow in the house
Did I say too many 50s already...
