Hanimex (Tokina?) Preset f/3.5 180mm Tele-Lens

Very first tests of lens wide open, with it's umpteen aperture blades -- I just got the lens and haven't counted them all. The lens has an H-prefixed serial number, which may mean that it is like the Tokina-made versions of the Soligor lens of similar description < Soligor 180mm 1:3.5 Preset Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database > . This may be the poor-man's Zeiss Sonnar, literally one lens element poorer than a Sonnar.

K10D at iso 100, unmodified in-camera jpegs, natural setting with other image settings zeroed.

Maybe the next time I see him he won't be so shy
Otis said your squirrel is working undercover and could have shown you his handsome face, but then would have to kill you!

Great images, David.

American Germander, which grows wild all around here. I didn't notice the katydid nymph at first! Tokina 28-70:
Thanks Paul! The spider keeps building her web across the back door. I didn't like the first day I found it, walked right through it.. I watched her re- build again last night. It was pretty cool how fast she could make it.

I didn't notice the katydid either. All that green, I can feel the humidity through my tablet

Thank you Rupert! My wife and daughter have a few rules about spiders, if it's in the house, smash it. I guess that's only one rule. Luckily this one is outside.

Your squirrels are still producing some fine bokeh.

Sounds like Mrs Rupert! I love spiders and find them very interesting creatures. They are very smart and industrious to be so small. I have read that no matter where on earth you are, excepting Antartica, you are never more than four feet away from a spider. That just might be true...I see some in the house that would easily fit on the head of a pin. They are under beds, under cabinets, desks...practically everywhere! Almost all are beneficial and totally harmless to humans.

From this little guy..that would fit on the head of a pin....

To one big enough to bring down a June bug...

To a big Mama Wolf Spider...

With hundreds of babies on her back!

I love them all!

Regards!

That is one admirable set of spider images. Especially like the one with a June bug. For some reason those big beetles have been very scarce in MessyChewBits this year. I've seen only one, and here it is July.

Ooops. While giving Rupert a pat I forgot to post a bit of my own bokeh, actually quite a lot of it as the subject (a tiny lobelia I believe) is also a bit soft. Plane of focus just behind the most prominent blossom.

Update: I counted those blades!

My Hanimex preset f3.5 180mm Tele-Lens has 15 aperture blades!

Here too.....we usually have them ankle deep every year, but this year I have not seen more than 3 or 4. Strange?

Even a spider shadow is enough to freak out Mrs Rupert!

Photographing the shadow was a stroke. It only wants the voice of Bela Lugosi.

A little Bokeh vs. DOF test

--with the Hanimex preset f3.5 180mm Tele-Lens

Subject: redbud tree branch/new leaves

Camera for this set is K110D, at iso2oo.

f/3.5, wide open

f/5.6, one and a half stops closed down

f/8, two and a half stops closed down

Perhaps because the background was 30-40 feet behind the subject the f/8 shot has more interesting bokeh than I expected. Note that I left out f/4, thinking that it would be too similar to f/3.5 which is so close to it, but I can see that I should also experiment with f/4 and whatever it is halfway between f/3.5 and f/8, since there are no click-stops to limit doing that.

OK, Rupert, the little baby spiders are giving me chills...

But the shadow is really cool...

If there are spiders in this one, I didn't see them... but some of the things in this shot are sharp...

Nice photos from everyone! Nothing as interesting as squirrels or spiders here. Just some plane jane bokeh.
