The poison ivy here usually turns red. Often it is one of the first bright fall color in the central and northern Illinois woods! Researchers have determined that over 140 species of birds eat the berries, so it's a rather beneficial plant, except for it giving most people who touch it severe dermatitis.

You might call it poison oak in Texas, the more common name in areas where the plant is mostly erect and shrub like. Here it can be erect but more commonly is a vine. They are either different forms of the same species, or two very closely related species.

I wasn't sure if this was poison ivy or not - I don't recall seeing the berries on them before. But yes, they are some of the first foliage to turn and can be quite colorful. I usually see it as a vine, winding its way up a tree. I'm no expert, so I keep clear - except to get in close as shown here

Even the green leaves can be quite pretty in the middle of the growing season. If it didn't give most people a terrible rash, we'd probably plant it as a ground cover! Birds eating the berries, and later defecating the seeds, is how it gets distributed. I have a field guide that says the berries are white, but I have only seen greenish ones, perhaps with a white-ish waxy bloom on them sometimes.

Spending plenty of money on a Pentax-A Star 1.8/135mm would have been my favorite choice, but it has always been out of my budget...
This is my most loved fast 135mm:
Soligor (Tokina made) C/D f/2 135mm

Two shots wide open. Great bokeh, and sufficient sharpness, at least for my needs.
Clicking the images takes to the Flickr pics, resized to 40% from the original raw's.

The photos are nothing special, but they give an idea of what kind of creamy bokeh this kind of lenses can deliver

cheers

People say to me "that lens isn't so sharp". I say, "you're lens isn't so silky smooth"

Pepper in the backyard, today during lunch.

SMC-K55mm at f1.8 I believe (I'm sure about the K55mm part) on a K-5
