Thank you Jorgario - thanks to that little 35mm gem of a lens I've randomly acquired.

SMC-K 200mm F2.5 Bokeh

I recently acquired a well used, internally clean, SMC- K 200mm F2.5 lens and wanted to test its capabilities in soft evening shadow light. Focus is the big challenge as there is zero depth of field. These photos are just random objects around the yard, shot with a handheld K-3 and the lens wide open at F2.5

Happy to see another 200/2.5 shooter. It appears you have the focus under control.

Not really bokeh, but a bit of blur-keh in the upright tubes on the far right. Not too bad for f/8. (Couldn't stop down much in bright light with no shutter speed faster than 1/1000.)

Detail of playground equipment, the riverfront park, Havana, Illinois.

Auto Sears MC f/2.8 28mm
Sears KSX Super (Ricoh KR-10 Super)
Kodak T400 CN (chromogenic B&W, expired & shot at iso 200)

I second that. The K 200/2.5 is a great lens, and it's good to know it has a following. You're using it in a way I never have, steamloco, and you're using and focussing it well.

Enjoy that hefty hunk of primo glass!

A couple new images made with the Vivitar Series 1 28mm f/1.9. The first one (of Tuulikki the cat, with Henry behind her) was made a few days ago; I believe the aperture was set to f/2.8 or f/4. The second was made earlier today in the shade of a silver maple where a squirrel had left what was left of an apple on a 2x4; that one was shot at f/5.6. The bokeh, even with the lens stopped down a bit, is still nice and smooth.

Another image made today with the Vivitar Series 1 28/1.9. I'm pretty sure I captured this wood sorrel photo at either f/4 or f/5.6; this is the central part of the photograph, a crop cutting what amounts to maybe a third of the image.

The little moth just looked white to me. The SMC Takumar 55mm f/2 saw all kinds of shades and iridescent colors. Is that a fault, or a virtue? I say virtue.

+1 on that. The right places are sharp, the right areas are bokehed. That one turned out just right.

I will agree. The soft, subtle colors add texture & visual interest to the wing.

Tuulikki reminds me of a cat I got when I graduated from college. It lived mostly with my parents who her enormously fond of her, as well as her kittens. We called her "Pussy Galore" after the James Bond femme fatale.

Ha! Apt name! Tuulikki isn't much bigger than a kitten herself. She was the runt of the litter, while her brother and best buddy, Henry, was long and lean. Henry's filled out some, and so has Tuuli, but Tuuli's still a runt. I'm thinking it'd be wise not to tell her of her look-alike's name: she might start getting ideas (which, however, wouldn't do her any good, thank the vet).
