Bokeh balls

Someone please tell me what you do in order to get bokeh balls . . . I seeum and likeum, but don't know how to getum.

typically from small fine points of light/highlights......whether from xmas lights or the glitterly sun reflections off of leaves.....generally more pronounced from strong backlighting

most times it is from being wide open

I got mine, in the following picture, from the bright snow falling in front of a darker fir tree. The aperture in this sample was set to f4, so I have little points along the circle. Like a 6 tooth circular saw with this particular lens.

SMC-K 120mm f2.8 at f4
