The TC has no electronic contacts. This means that the lens will become fully manual.
As far as I know, you cannot change the 55-300 aperture manually on the lens.
Hence, you will be making photo's wide open all the time.

A 2x TC will always impact image quality.
What to expect from a 5 pounds TC in this respect? I don't know.
It is only 5 pounds right?

they would make great extension tubes for a manual focus macro lens.

Buy them both, remove the glass elements and you will have two PK/M extension tubes for macro work, that can meter in Manual mode with the Green Button. I paid $20.00 for a Pentax 50mm ET which is about the same size as the 3x TC.

That appears to be a Star D teleconverter and I have one like it. If we were neighbors, I'd let you borrow it anytime you wish.
As someone mentioned previously, with the lenses you have in mind, you will not have control of the aperture and the apertures will remain wide open.
I think the price is fair and an inexpensive tc can be useful in some situations that do not require tack sharp images.
