Best "normal' FOV lens

I was wondering what everyones preferences were for the 'Normal' (30-43mm on APC-S) FOV range in the pentax lineup. Obviously there is a big price difference between say the DA35mm and the FA43mm LTD, but taking price into consideration too, What is your favourite/best lens?

Normal in 35mm terms is actually 43mm. On APS-C then it's 28mm.

My favourite "normal" prime lens is the DA21, but I prefer wide end of normal.

I think something between 24mm and 35mm is good for normal. I use a 28mm and I'm pretty happy with that FOV. It's not hard to find them, either (at least as a manual focus lens). However the DA L 35 is mighty compelling, too.

Everything past 35 begins to feel "tele". In general I do think it's easier to compose a compelling photo with something in the 40 - 55 range, but it's tight. 28mm gives you a "snapshot" feel. And the 21 is a good suggestion - more of a dramatic snapshot feel. It's not really a normal focal length, certainly wide, but you can use it as a general purpose lens with great results.

For "normal" I like the 28, especially since the price of manual lenses are great. But I find I shoot twice as much with a 50 than a 28.
Given that, my next lens is going to be the 43 limited.

The FA 31mm certainly has a stellar reputation, with only a few drawbacks: price (which is, I think, pretty fair), AF speed and AF noise (from what I'm told).
Also check out the Sigma alternative: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/121684-thought...m-f-1-4-a.html

I'd find 35mm+ pushing it for a 'normal'. Pentax calls the 40mm pancake normal but that's too long for my eye.

My experience is the FA 31 Ltd AF noise is normal for a non SDM lens and the AF speed is fast, not lightning fast but fast. I replaced the DA 35 Ltd with the FA 31 Ltd because I felt 35mm was a little long for a normal lens and AF spped was too slow due to the long travel (macro).

I just got my hands on a Super Tak 35 and I like it as a "normal." Maybe its the new lens syndrome? It was either $50 for the s.Tak or $600 for the DA35 ltd. I think I'm starting to like it a lot more looking at those figures.

for me it's 28mm. I find that focal length the most flexible on all occasions. not too wide and not too long. also distortion seems to be pretty well controlled.

I only have one 'normal' FOV lens and I don't have experience with others. So that one is obviously the best one

By the way, it's the FA31Ltd.

My choice for normal was one that ...honestly... I would NOT have chosen before I actually tried it.

I am a person who gravitates toward wide lenses, I just use them more than anything else. I figured that a 31 or a 28 would be what my eye told me was normal. But no, it turns out that the fov that truly looks "right" to my eye is that of the wonderful FA 43mm lens. It just looks completely right to me, like the view I expect to have with my own eyes. The 31 is too wide, includes more area than what I expect for normal, and the 50 is too long.

So +1 for the mighty 43, the FA limited who tends to hang in the shadows of it's 31mm and 77mm sisters! For me, it's the ultimate "normal" lens!

I can be a very happy photographer with a DA40 on the camera and DA21 in the pocket or vice versa. My 28/2 is the nearest thing to a normal view to my eyes, and fast to boot, but it usually seems to lose out to being implied between the tiny, AF DA Ltd pair.

I have both the da21 and the da40, so I must be a happy Gene as well as the FA 50 1.4, but for me the ultimate 'normal lens' is my imperious Fa31mm. I love 'em all, like disparate but similar children, but the 31 is first among equals.

If I owned the FA31, I might be there with you.
