Well, as I heard, FA35/2 is known to be even sharper, it's a bit of bokeh that is distinguishing both.

I know FA31 has sterling reputation, superb build quality and would love to own one and trying to justify So as far as FA31 IQ goes, yet to see the magic like FA77 which FA35 can't produce.
The FA35 is certainly very sharp, even wide open, however I've used both quite a bit and wouldn't say it's sharper than the FA31 at f/2.

Here's what I think is quite a good comparison between the two:

Very interesting blog post. I am sure that a more rigorous test could show more differences, but this is the level of performance comparison that most of us are capable of seeing in use.

Lens rendering can be very subjective, and we each have to make a judgment on what the intangibles are worth to us, but based on one person's quick test, the difference between the two lenses would be difficult to justify what was triple the price. I noticed immediately that the exposure was slightly different with the two lenses (one of the comments picked up on this as well) so the "richness" factor is suspect.

It confirms something that I have maintained on other threads for a long time--at F8 the kit lens is a damn fine lens--like most lenses at F8. For an outdoor walkaroud lens (where it often is not hard to keep apertures in the 8-11 range) you can do a lot without spending a lot.

I have the 31 and I'm not tempted by the 35 (which is saying a lot because I'm easily tempted).

A complete non-issue in actual use, and pretty much the same as the FA35/2 at common apertures. And, as pointed out in the replies to your post last time this was brought up, probably as much a function of the sensor as it is the lens itself.
