Just when I thought I had it licked.
Having not bought any photo gear for quite a while, last Fri I found myself in the nearby London Drugs and wandered over to the camera counter. This is a tiny little counter barely large enough for 3 people to lean on comfortably, but hey! What's that? Attached to a k10d was a large zoom lens with gold band around it...
"Can I have a look?"
"Here ya go."
Feels good. Switch on the camera. zip-zip zoom-zoom zip-zip
hmmm. Sure enough firmware 1.00
"Can I try it on that k100 Super?"
"Sure."
Stuff in some batteries. Switch on...
"Woah."
"Cool."
By then I had passed the point of no return.

The object of my new affection was a DA*16-50mm f2.8
Besides the demo unit, they had one new in the box under the counter.
After they readily agreed to match TheCameraStore's online price ("We do that a lot.")
I said I'd take it.

I had wondered about the new DA* lenses ever since their announcement but I refuse to buy stuff I can't physically fondle first.

So as he rings it up,
"You have the other one? The 50-135?"
"Lemme see... Yep."
A demo and a new one in the box under the shelf.
. . .
Next day, Saturday. I'm out early getting an oil change. Having played with my new zoom Fri evening taking lots of RPOS, that 2nd lens seems to be calling to me...

Epilogue: It seems irresistable, this LBA. At least it leads to something constructive.
I like the long zoom the best, although the short one may get used more.

sloppy of them to have the old firmware so on their k10d so the lens doesnt work with sdm though. congrats on new lenses anyways, am jealous

Indeed. Surprising (to me) that the local specialty photo shops at this point still don't have either of them and what amounts to a department store did.

True. I'd have had to come back with my own camera if they didn't have a k100 Super on hand. Up-side - I got to check out one of those, too.

Thanks, but it's mostly a matter of luck and seriously skewed priorities. My motorcycle mtce now has to wait for spring...
