S-M-C Takumar 105/2.5 auction today

I stand corrected. The price on this auction went from $66.50 to $162.50 in the final 4 seconds...

Nevertheless that lens was under $100 within the last year.
I won a SuperTak 105/2.8 for US$17.35 (shipped) less than two months ago. Do you hate me?

Fair enough, but I haven't seen any Nikon Lenses of that era going up in value 4-5 times either.
And look, I'm not saying that this sort of thing doesn't happen with other "old" Canon or Nikon lenses either....I don't know anything about them....only what I've seen with Taks, particularly SMCs.
Cheers, Pickles.
The answer is simple. Unlike old Canons and Nikons, the M42 mount is still truly universal. This means that M42 lenses will appeal to a much broader audience, with higher prices as a result.

SMC Takumar 2.8/105mm just ended at £216 (~$348). I wonder how much my mint Super-Tak is worth nowdays?

A S-M-C 85/1.9 ended on shopgoodwill.com yesterday at $272.53. That was with a case and the original lens hood.

I have been watching these lenses.
It should be mentioned that these lenses are the last series "Super Multi Coated" (suitable for ES), they are in mint condition, & come complete with original caps case & hood.
Certainly you can buy the same lens in an earlier series or for sure SMC lenses in average condition for less money, but the rarer & better super multi coated lenses like the two in question, with all accessories, invariably are well sought after....which is reflected in the price.
On Ebay today I saw a K mount Pentax 15mm (looks like Aspheric), complete with front & rear caps.......AND, the very rare case....starting price is $1K US...it will be interesting to see where that goes.
Cheers, Pickles.

Just the other day I scored a Super-Tak 135mm f/3.5, the bare lens without caps but in near mint condition, for 11$ shipped. I know these are a dime and a dozen, but it shows that by staying away from collectors items, one can still get some incredibly good glass for the money.

Nope, because I got mine FREE on CL a few years back when a guy was giving away a couple of old SLR's he said he wasn't using anymore. It came complete with caps and original case, with my original Spottie #1 and with a 55MM Takumar as well. The fact that I even own it is sheer dumb luck, laugh.

I missed out on a Super-Tak 105/2.8 on shopgoodwill in October. The sale price was $89.99 attached to a broken SP1000. Last week I overpaid for a S-M-C 35/3.5, I paid $60.73 after shipping. It is a nice sharp lens and the cosmetics are good, but there is a lot of oil inside and the blades are sluggish.

When I started this thread, I was talking about screw mounts....still am, but if anyone's interested in K mount (Phil, where are you?!), there are several of the rarer Pentax K mounts, including a 200 2.5 with caps, case etc on ebay at the moment from a French seller. He's also got a 15mm, 20mm etc etc.
Cheers, Pickles.

I've heard people say this a hundred times but have never seen it actually happen.

You may find a Spottie with a 1.8 on it for $50 to $75, or with a 2 for less, but they're still not bargains.

I keep searching Craigslist because I think there are less aware sellers there.
The Craigslist around Boston is ridiculous with the prices of Pentax film cameras. There are so many schools around here, that you see listings all the time for a K1000 with a random 50mm for $125-200. Crazy.

If you really want to find deals on CL, there are search sites that index all of the different CL sites, and you can search nationwide.

vintage lenses

Well, I guess I did pretty good at the thrift store the other day then. Spotted a brown camera bag, and had a look inside. In the top compartment was a Spotmatic F in really nice condition, with a 55mm 1.8, and a Takumar 28-80 - a new AF lens for digital (I'm assuming). When I opened the bottom, there were several other lenses, all Pentax S-M-C's, and as i was in a rush, I took a chance and bought the whole works. Got home, and had a closer look, and began researching each one. The collection included:

- 200mm f4 S-M-C bayonet mount

The rest are all M42s.....
- 17mm f4 S-M-C fisheye
- 50mm f4 S-M-C Macro
- 85mm f1.8 S-M-C

All with bayonet mount adapters.

Also got a Sekonic L8 light meter
A weird portrait lens that vignettes the image around the subject
A whole bunch of filters

.....and all for $50. Was trying to figure out which DSLR system to go with, as I hadn't picked one yet. I'm thinking i might go with Pentax......

Not sure. I haven't found reference to a "soft" 85mm 1.8. How do you tell?
