Took the 18-135 as my only lens on a long day hike in the mountains of Montana along the East Rosebud. Here's Elk Lake. Photo is untouched except for being resized down. Note that it is at 18mm, and some have complained that the lens is weak at the wide and tele extremes.

Encouraged

Reading this thread has made me feel better about trading in my well-loved K-7 and my (non HSM) Sigma 17-70mm for a new K-5 and 18-135mm WR. Waiting for delivery to my local Henry's store. Great deal at $999 CDN.

Maybe down the road I'll carry a bunch of primes.. right now my pack mules are too small, my oldest is 4 and youngest is 1 1/2.. they can't carry much and probably won't come on many hikes. They will carry those important things like snacks and the tripod to free up some weight for me to carry the primes! Granted Pentax primes are nice and small, I also can't afford $1300+ for the 31mm and another $900 for the 77mm. For now, heading out with the 18-135 and maybe a Raynox 150 and a 1.4 or 2x TC would be just perfect to cover almost everything I can think of. which leads me to another thing.. are there WR TC's?
Just picked up this lens and debating whether or not to get a raynox to go with it. How did the 150 work out?

Unfortunately the Raynox 150 is not an ideal match with the 18-135 due to significant vignetting. I have some test shots here:

https://picasaweb.google.com/bonhommed/DA18135Raynox?authkey=Gv1sRgCKC6sMfl4trLnQE#

Note that you get better magnification and less vignetting at infinity focus than you do at close focus. This limits the amount of magnification the 150 delivers. The 250 gives good magnification but the vignetting is horrific. My solution is to just use the bare 18-135 and crop the image.

My Ex took the K-5 (So I upgraded to a D800). I never did get a Raynox 150 for it, but they do work well. I would stay away from TC's... they usually diminish your IQ too much to be worth while..

The 150 vignettes extremly on using the MFD, but a bit further away I found it to be usable and sufficient for not taking a dedicated macro lens on my travels.
