Quote: nater: The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is APS-C only, not full-frame like the Samyang is (if the Samyang was APS-C, it would be smaller and cheaper).
Please tell me upon which FF Pentax DSLR you plan to mount the Samyang?
Also, APS-c lenses do not necessarily equal less $$. The Da 70mm 2.4 has an average price (our database) of $464 vs the Fa 77 1.8 average price of $626, for a price difference of $162. The $162 is not attributed to your argument; no, it is attributed to the difference in speed of the 2 lenses.
Quote: nater: The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens is full-frame, but as we know, 50mm, being close to register distance, is a much simpler lens to create, and I'm not sure why it would be compared to a 35mm anyway?
My mention of the Sigma 50mm lens was not for direct comparison--since you omit my words in context, I'll reintroduce them here for you:
Quote: Throughout the thread, I maintain, IMO, the $500 price tag of the Samyang is too high. Surely my opinion has validity, because many others feel the same way. My quotation shows a lens I do see worth paying $500 for, and why. Reread the quote, and you will see no comparison of the Sigma 50mm 1.4 to the Samyang 35 1.4.
Quote: nater: The closest, least expensive AF full-frame lens I am aware of is the Sigma 28mm f/1.8, which is $330, but even for someone such as myself (who owns the Sigma 28mm) doesn't mean I am precluded from being potentially interested in a 35mm f/1.4 (anymore than owning the Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4 and Chinon 45mm f/2.8 precluded me from being interested in the Voigtlander 40mm f/2).
No one here is
"precluding" your interest in anything. If you desire to shoot FF with another system & Samyang, that is fine, but this is still
Pentax forums, and my discussion, as well as my camera, stays within these parameters.
I discuss the Sigma 30mm 1.4 because it is proven. For example, here are 72 owner reviews from the Miranda site, with an average rating of 8.9 out of 10:
FM Reviews - Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM BTW, the average reported price of the Sigma, in these 72 reviews, is $380. Now, if Samyang is going to make a $500 MF lens @ 35mm 1.4, IMO, as well as in many others I"m sure, it had better be kick ass'n better than the AF Sigma 30mm f 1.4.
Finally, I have an important question for you. Is your interest in the Samyang 35 f 1.4 hinging solely upon its FF utility? If so, upon which C or N body do you wish to mount it?
