Is Tokina EL 135mm f2.8 an M42 lens?

Hi guys,

I recently bought Tokina EL 135mm f2.8 lens from ebay. Now I have a doubt if it is an M42 screw mount lens or normal K mount lens. Can I use it as it is with my K-x or do I need an adapter?

Please clarify

Cheers
Guna

Tokina makes lenses for many camera mounts. Look at the bottom of the lens: is it a screwmount or a bayonet mount? If bayonet, do you see any letters like PK or NI or FD or MD? It would help if you would post a picture of the mount. Good luck!

If it's an M42, you need an adaptor. You might also have to modify it in that case if it is an automatic lens.

I did modify a Tokina EL28/2.8 and https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/do-yourself/121436-modifying-tokina-el-28...-aperture.html might be of help in that case (no guarantee that yours is the same).

If you recently won the lens from auction (as opposed to “Buy Now”) then you may still have the actual eBay link to the lens in question even thought auction has already expired. Could you post that link if possible and have us take look at the description and maybe some photos as well?

The rear cap looks like a K-mount cap, but no way to know without a picture of the mount itself. The red dot is another possible indicator.

Thanks! Is this a good lens? I am surprised that nobody is bidding. What is a good price for it?

I would bet that is a K-mount lens.

It's definitely not bad and it's a great buy at that price. I think this is from a series that also included a 24mm and a 28mm. It's not an EL lens, as the OP mentioned; the ones I've seen were just marked Tokina RMC. Very well built - like K mount lenses. Competent IQ.

The description states that you need an adaptor. That would imply M42 in my opinion. The description also states 'no front cap' but I think I see one on the lens in the image.

And to add:
As stated, I have the EL28/2.8 (M42) and I'm not impressed with the quality. This might be a result of the modification, but it vignettes very heavily up to f/5.6; the vignetting also seems asymmetrical which might indicate that it is misaligned for whatever reason.
