Sigma 500/4 Mirror?

Other than the novelty of a 500/4 mirror, can anyone tell me why this mirror lens is 2 large worth of shiny?

Pentax K Sigma-XQ Mirror 500/4 #21192 ........ Minty - eBay (item 370308305558 end time Mar-12-11 13:58:10 PST)

This eBay seller has a reputation for inflated prices.

Besides the price being outrageous, I make it a point to NEVER buy anything described as 'minty', unless it's toothpaste.

Yes - I completely agree. It angers me so much when I see that term applied to lenses on ebay. It's bad enough when people don't take the time to take good photos of a lens or describe it with accurate terms, but to go so far as to use a flavor to describe it, gah.

Well, I'll soon discover what the fuss is about, as I have just bought an older version of this very lens (Sigma Mirror Supertelephoto 500mm f/4) for a mere US$ 70. For that money I'll even get the matched "1000mm f/8 attachment". For all I know it could be a dud but we'll see...

The auto-translate function seems to have failed.

And if it doesn't work out you can use it as a boat anchor, it already has an attachment point for the chain. You also need a wheelbarrow to take it out for a shoot. But for 70 bucks, why not, for that I would have probably in it also.

Greetings

Looks beautifull in the galleries but i think this guy is just waiting for a sucker to eat the hook (that or someone with so much money, and a collector insane habit)...for that price you can get better teles, that will be at least as portable as that monster.

What kind of ignorant bunch are you guys? Except one all of you have no clue that this lens even existed and you start bitchting about eBay and offers right away ... did you ask the seller for images, do you even know a good seller from a bad one. Go to KevinCameras.com to find 41 images of the lens. I actually came from that page and wanted to find more info about the lens. What a waste of time to become part of this discussion.

I dunno. I think other than the price it might have been interesting. I also didn't know that mirror glass could be f4 let alone have an aperture ring.
