Hi Marc (35mmfilm_user)

Not being a previous Pentax convert, there are obviously a ton of lenses that I've never encountered before. Looking at the photograph of your FA* 300/2.8, I was slight intrigued by all the auxilliary apendages sprouting from the bodywork. I think I've worked out the purpose of the ones which are intended to support a carrying strap and also the locking collar to enable the body & lens to be rotated to the desired position, but what does the one nearest the bayonet mount do ?

Best regards
Richard
Hi Richard,

Correct, the top two are the locking knob for the collar, and the carry strap lugs (see the life sized image for a reference).

I use a Lowepro Transporter strap, which is the recommended one straight from the Product Manager. I contacted him via phone, left him a message, and he called me back within 2-3 hours. I was impressed!

Bottom arrow points to the 43mm rear drop in filter holder.

Cheers,
Marc

Hi Marc (35mmfilm_user)

Thanks for the info. I've heard about some lenses which have internally selectable filters, but never seen this particular method used before.

Best regards
Richard

Frank, you might be the only person I've seen that actually has one of the Limited K10D Grand Prix cameras. I love the brown leather wrap on those, but can't justify the price for my own uses. Very nice lens collection too by the way.

Cheers,

Greg
Thanks Greg Actually quite a number of my friends bought the K10D GP when it came here. It's not too much more than the normal version, actually I paid less than the combo of a normal K10D+BatteryGrip

Some of mine...

Well here goes... first an old photo showing msot of the lineup...

You can even spot from the photo, that it was taken shortly after I nearly lost my second copy of the FA43ltd.

ANyway the photo of most of my pentax Lineup:

Since then the DA10-17FE has been added, not to mention the much debated star:

Well set aside a couple of sigmas (105 and 70-200) that is more or less my lineup.

Those are pretty cool. Seldom seeing someone got both the FA and DA LE lens set

So you got 10 lenses from 10mm to 77mm? Guess you like shooting in this range so much

Cheers!

Those are stack of 58mm filter rings which serve as a hood

I got a better one from Heliopan (kinda like a filter extension) for mine:

Nice. Do you actually use both the DA's and FA's? I've been tossing back and forth over that 70 versus 77 thing, and seeing your lineup almost has me thinking just get them both. hehehe

Thomas, Love the stacked filter ring "hood" on the 31mm. I did that for my 43mm for awhile and found some older Tak metal screw on hoods that do a great job to replace the stacked filter rings (without glass).

LOL... Sean, you are terrible! Funny, but terrible...

Actually that drop in filter is a PITA if you're not careful - both the 300/2.8 and the 600/4 are notorious for the drop in filter holder knob swiveling 90 degrees and ejecting the whole thing... One pro I know puts some black electrician tape on his FA* 600/4 so ensure it doesn't secretly eject on him.

I guess this makes the shooting process even more exciting. First you have to sweat the dollars, then you have to excercise your arms, back and shoulders to be able to carry them and then you need some sort of Kung fu training to skip filters. To make pics with those lenses should be called ultimate shooting.

Nice collection!
What for are these extensions? Are the normal hoods to short (Crop?)?

Best,
