FA*250-600mm vs A*600mm pictured side by side

Hi all, some eye candy for you. FA*250-600mm f5.6 versus A*600mm f5.6.

I took these photos with my W10 to showcase the relative size differences between 2 Pentax telephoto lenses just before I sold the A*600. It's not too often that we Pentax owners are able to put these 2 lenses together at the same time. I was able to buy the FA*250-600 recently (to the seller, thank you!) so the A*600 had to go.

The little black lens sitting either between the 2 telephotos or to one side of the A*600 is a Pentax A50mm/f1.7 lens, which I put there to give you a sense of scale.

Enjoy!

First picture. The hoods of the A*600 & FA*250-600 are retracted. The A50mm/f1.7 looks like a wee speck in between these 2 lenses.

Second picture. Here are the matching aluminum trunks. The trunk with the silver lettering is home for the FA*250-600 and the trunk with red lettering is for the A*600.

Third picture. Here are the lenses with the lens hoods extended.

Fourth picture. Here is final picture of the 2 lenses, the lens hoods are retracted.

Hey George,

Now when you started flirting with me about the big zoom, I didn't realize that you had an A*600 in the kit...I've often wanted to shoot through that barrel just for perspective.

Working from a blind for birds yesterday and really missed the big zoom (yes, I'm the seller) when some large ravens came in where I had been shooting lbb's (that's little brown birds for those of you not yet familiar with the scientific reference) with the blind just 25 feet from the birds. So close it was head shot distance for raven sized birds but also lost my preset background covered by the huge bodies.

Wish I had done comparison shots with the mondo zoom and the FA*600/4 that I've kept--talk about a tough decision...which awesome lens to keep? Just glad the zoom went to someone who can appreciate how great it is!

I actually did something similar, comparing the size -with extended hoods- of the following lenses:

- SMC Pentax -F* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]
- SMC Pentax-A* 600mm F5.6 ED [IF]
- Sigma 500mm F4.5 APO EX

This was shot when I sold the Sigma to the owner of the A* 600. And yes, the F* 250-600 is mine

And compared to the humble F* 300mm F4.5 ED [IF]:

Hi Ron, actually I just got the A*600 just a few months before the 250-600. My mom died of cancer very suddenly at the same time I got the lens so it was set aside and barely used. Then there were all sorts of issues relating to her estate that I had to deal with afterwards. In all that, um, "excitement" I clean forgot to mention my A*600.

There are 2 moose that live in the ravine behind my house. I've been trying to get the 250-600 to make friends with them. No success yet but loads of fun! I'm going to be stalking some red wing blackbirds in the wet pond nearby come spring with this lens, can't wait. Thanks again!
