Sears 300mm f/5.6 k mount - good?

I was at a local pawn shop looking for lenses and saw a Sears brand 300mm f/5.6 prime lens in K mount, made in Japan, for $25. Condition seems good. I looked in the lens database and did not find it. I have a DAL 55-300mm zoom, so I don't NEED a 300mm, but was wondering if this is a good deal?

Put the $25 in a piggy bank and save for a decent lens. I can't think of any situation where you would be better served using that manual slow prime vs. a 55-300.

Sounds interesting - can you try it on your camera before buying it? The main advantage such a lens would have over the 55-300 is precision with manual focusing. If that is of interest to you and the lens is in good condition, get it - $25 sounds like a good deal if the lens is decent.

I have never been disappointed by any inexpensive Sears prime lens. A 300/5.6 obviously isn't an action-sports lens, but should be good on bright days or tripodded. Mine is by Chinon and is solid and decent. At best, you'll get a useful tool. At worst, you'll probably be able to sell it for a good price -- Sears glass attracts attention on eBay. GO FOR IT!

Thanks, I'll take a camera with me and go back to try it out.
