FA 100mm f2.8 Macro vs D FA 100mm f2.8 macro

Hi All, I have decided to get a 100mm macro to complement my lens kit of film and digital cameras. Having reviewed Photozone's tests I favour the FA over the D FA for primarily focusing and build quality reasons. Any comments from users of these lenses would be appreciated.

Take Care

well, i can't comment on the fa, but i did just receive the dfa, and the issue with the lack of a focus limiter is a little annoying
i tend to manual focus to get the subject close enough, then set it back to auto focus to lock it in
the build quality seems fine to me, it feels very nice and solid

the other questions you have to ask are about availability, and cost i guess

Back when I got my 100mm macro the consensus was that the F was better optically than the FA but handeling was better on the FA. I know you were asking about the DFA, but it could be useful if you find a F.

The optical formula is the same for all of them. The D FA has the latest SMC anti-flare coating giving higher contrast and a change of colour rendition (some prefers the "smoother" look of the older SMC coating) other differencies are because of manufacturing tolerancies.

Two versions of stories.

Some claimed same optical performance and some believed Fa version better than DFA in terms of image quality and build.
