Vivitar 100mm f3.5 Macro Lens

Vivitar 100mm f3.5 Macro Lens, Manual Focus
I have the opportunity to buy one of these lenses but can find little if any information/reviews about them. Does anyone own/use one? Is it worth a try?

Google KIRON KID. You may be able to track him down. I believe he is a forum member as well.

It's a Cosina not a Kiron. It was sold under several names (Phoenix, Promaster, Vivitar, etc). Build quality is said to be better than the AF version. Like the AF version it's a 1:2 macro and needs a matched adapter for 1:1.

This old classified has some samples.

Enclosed is a snap of my Promaster 100mm 1:3.5 MF with the achromat. I understand this is the same as the Cosina, also sold as Vivitar, Phoenix and even Pentax (!) AFAIK. IMO: plasticky build, but very nice IQ (for a fraction of the price of any new macro lens ), more info:

I have the Phoenix version and although its not my fav for 100mm at a distance, the 1:1 macro ability looks unbelievable for the price. I have the Tamron 90/2.8 also and can not tell which lens took the shot unless I check the exif. For Macro purposes its unbeatable for the price....IMHOl
