Macro function with F35-70?

Hello all!

While thinking of getting the DA35 2.4 or the DA40ltd I noticed an old F35-70 along with a SFX. The lens focuses fast and seems to be a good buy.

I have not really understood the macro range above 70. Should I turn it to max or is there a range between 70 and max that can be used for something?

Seb.

The F35-70 is really a close-focus lens, not macro. And a very fine and sharp and agile lens it is, too! Once you turn the zoom past 70, you are in the close-focus range and can no longer reach infinity focus. Nearest focus at max is (according to my rough test) about 20cm / 8in, whereas at 70mm it's about twice that. The range between 70 and max lets you fine-tune your focus down to those limits.

Yup, great lens. I got mine on an SF1 for US$22 total, so the lens cost just US$11 -- and I sold the SF1. Great deal! Enjoy!

The macro range on the F 35-70 is past the stop you feel when you extend the zoom to 70mm. Just turn the lens past the stop. There is a little resistance. That's normal. I love mine also. The zoom mechanism has since broken but the lens is still sharp as a tack. It works as a 70mm and the macro works as always. This lens is probably the best deal for the buck out there. The build quality isn't all that great which is why it sells for so cheap. The optics are outstanding.

Thanks for the clarifications.

I still haven't tried the SFX yet, the battery was taken out but it looked newly replaced. And I got the original (?) pentax grey bag too. But it wasn't cheap, I paid 50% more than for the M135 3.5 and M50 1.7 each. But I feel I have a good starting kit for my K-x.

Except that I saw a F35-135 on sale.
And the LBA was put on hold by the Boss Lady.

So no can do.

Seb
