Welcome back, good score, it'll be a great concert lens IMHO, length is just about perfect for so many venues. I'm relying more and more on my MF lenses at shows. the taks 50 1.4 55 1.8, the 100 2.8 being the 3 i like best, but i don't have this lens (yet)

Another "Welcome back!" and congratulations, and all that.
DOF at 120/2.8 is slightly thinner than 50/1.2 or 85/2, a bit thicker than 55/1.2 or 135/2.8.
And the best time to shoot cats is after they've eaten gluttonously.

Nice lens! I have a SMC Takumar 120mm f2.8, I wonder if they redesigned the optics in the M version.

I am pretty sure the M is indeed redesigned. The "M" is definitely different than the "K", anyhow.

As I described in the "shootout" thread I posted earlier today, it is looking my initial impression is holding. The 120 fits between the 100 and 135 in IQ as well as focal length (with 100 being the sharpest & most contrasty). Realistically, the 120 probably closer in IQ to the 135 than the 100 - the 100 is just something special. But at half a stop faster than the 135, with IQ at least as good, the 120 looks to be my new go-to medium telephoto.

Oh, I also managed to get some decent shots of my cats at f/2.8:

Great to have you back---we're sure to see you problem solving all over the Forum soon.

Marc Sabatella: The lens just arrived yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to shoot a concert, or anything beyond a few tests shots, yet.
Congratulations on finally snagging one of these--I remember you telling us this was one of the few lenses you really wanted/needed. Sometimes things just work out.

Marc Sabatella: So assuming it takes pictures at all, it's a winner for me. Seriously - considering it's going to spend most of it's life shooting moving targets in the dark - wide open aperture, ISO 1600+, and still never as fast a shutter speed as one would want
Someday, when the K5 price gets reasonable, you can mount the 120 f2.8 treasure on it it get more desirable shutter speeds.
