I have two Takumar M42 200 f/4 lenses...

The first is the more desirable "Super-Multi-Coated version". Problem is, the aperture blades are broken on this one.

I also have a nearly perfect Super-Takumar version. Can i swap the front element assembly from the SMC to the Super? The threads are the same, and everything is the same size. So, it fits physically. Just wondering if there is a more subtle variation or compatibility issue i'm missing.

Any thoughts?

I already swapped front optical block from 50/1.4 lenses, and plan to swap front lenses of two 15/3.5, I do not see any problem in swapping for the 200/4, apart from the fact that you won't have the SMC coupling mecanics that are useful on the latest M42 bodies (so the frankeinstein lens will have less value than a "real" S-M-C that has everything S-M-C)

If the number of the elements/groups is the same it MAY work, or it may not. Why not try it an' see?
