You can find the M 50 1.7 shipped for 50, easily.

I mean, for 80 dollars you can buy the A 50 1.7 (then you can use AV mode), so I would not buy any of the lenses you just listed...

Unless the vivitar has an A setting.

No way! An SMC 50mm f/2 shouldn't cost you this much. There is an 'A' for 33.99$ BIN for offer on E*ay right now, and if you're a little patient, you won't even have to pay that much.

Best choice - well done!

If you look at the second shootout test here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/121708-50ish-m...t-k-mount.html

you'll find that the 50/1.7 and 50/2 are both included. I think this will answer your question!

f2 lenses do have quality issues. Some good copy and some bad copy.

Regarding the f1.7, either A or M versions, it's good on average. Someone seems to like the f1.7 better than the f1.4. Depends on the light condition and bokeh rending, the f1.4 still have better result than the f1.7 from case to case.

I found out the f1.4 has less DOF (thinner) than the f1.7 at half click down (approx f1.7/f1.8). That makes f1.7 a lot easier to use.

I like my Vivitar 50mm f1.7, no complaints at all. Paid $25 (shipped) for it. Compared to the SMC 50mm f2, it's just as sharp at f2, so far as my eyes can tell. I will take some test shots and post photos this evening!

Charles.

Seems like you have the first symptom of LBA.
That is what it began...
And as for my case, it's not curable.

I have to say I've owned quite a few 50mm lenses. The only Vivitar was a screw mount in the 70s. I've never had a 50 that was not sharp enough for my purposes, but YMMV.

However, if I were looking for a 50ish (like me) lens now, it would be to get an A lens. I am using more and more wireless PTTL bounce flash, and my fast 50s (M1.4 and Cosina 1.2) won't play.
