I don't believe for one second that is a 6 pound lens. The Bigma is close to 6 pounds. They must be shipping it in a lead box.

Just about. Six pounds shipping weight? Does that include a few pipe wrenches?

My Viv-Kiron Series 1 Version 1 70-210/3.5 weighs 880g. My (now gone) Viv-Tokina 75-260/4.5-6.2 weighed 1080g. There's no way a Viv 75-205/3.8 is gonna weigh ~2700g. It'll be more in the 660g neighborhood.

I suggest the OP do some serious gargling and come up with some actual numbers.

Aren't there 3-4 versions of this lens? I believe my dad has the f/3.8 version...I can dig it out if you really want me to (I literally mean "dig it out"...it's really stuck in the closet).

It is definitely in the 1.5-2lb range, in any case.

My thanks

I'll go with RioRico's suggestion of approx 660g.

I too used to have a Kiron (Viv) series 1 70-210 Nikon AI and found that was a comfortable handling lens in use on a film camera body.

I intend using the 75-205 0n a K100D body -- I hope it can cope with the weight.

Serial number starting "22"? It's a great lens, made for Vivitar by Kino Precision (a.k.a. Kiron) despite not having the "Series 1" designation.

I have 2 of them, one weighs 702g and the other weighs 703g (just the lens, no filters or end caps).

I too have the Kiron (22) version of this lens in M42. Mine is a two-touch zoom (another version of the Vivitar 75-205mm f3.8 was one-touch), which I much prefer. It is rather big and heavy, but not unmanageable. I found the IQ to be excellent (at least stopped down a little--I didn't really do much testing with it wide open), sharp, good contrast, good bokeh, and good close focusing capabilities. In my opinion, it is the best tele-zoom one can get for almost nothing. With my version, I got the original manual, and so I can confirm that the 22 two-touch version has the same optical design as the first version of the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f2.8 lens (which was also made by Kiron), which is a highly regarded lens. The only difference is that the front element has been downsized somewhat. So it's a great way to get a high-quality optic at a bargain-basement price (and build up some muscles in the process).

Hi, I know it's been a while but you wouldn't have a scan of the manual for this lens, would you? If so, could you let me know at patcam@gmail.com? thanks, PC.
