I suspect that the effect if exists would be smaller for K85 or FA77.

Even after taking these into consideration, the resolution seems still inferior to FA77 at f3.5 or smaller. I have not tried apertures smaller than f11.
this effect is very rare with f1.8 lenses, and practically gone with f2 lenses AFAIK

K85 vs. Samyang 85 vs. FA77 IMHO
Thanks for sharing.

It is worth noting that the Samyang has a focus shift on stopping down, so focussing at 1.4 (as we usually do) does not give optimal focus at smaller apertures.
Thanks for the info.

I am consider the Samyang, seriously consider the Sigma vs FA77, having the M85f2, and will have the K85f1.8 in a week or two. It seems like the Samyang introduces a lot of memorized actions to get the result perfect, even it is a f1.4, but f1.8 and f2 is not bad at all.

In my case, I have MF covered, and therefore the Samyang falls out, and only two left to consider: Sigma or FA77.

Thanks for all your posts. I love to read them.

I would think that the FA77 would become more appealing if it's priced at $650. honestly, it is very tempting, but I would still go for the Sigma.
My problem with Sigmas is that unappealing crackle paint. One of these days I hope they get rid of it.

As I mentioned earlier (I think in this very thread), on at least the Sigma 85mm f/1.5, the new EX finish is smooth, not textured.

85mm f1.5? Sigma's homepage photo has the old school paint/covering on it. Some Sigmas new designs have some smooth painted barrel, but the zoom/focus rings still have that stuff on it.

Don't get me wrong, I would consider another Sigma even it does have the old covering if I really wanted a certain range and output quality only they were offering.

Edit: This video looks like the lens is all flat paint:
Looks pretty decent...

Dont forget in that video, its the canon version with the HSM motor.
Is the Pentax version going to use HSM as well or do we get screw drive?

I hope it's HSM Pentax needed a reasonable option in that area. Seesh.

Even if the SDMs were reliable they are slow as ****

It is HSM and I believe I recall reading the finish has been changed to flat black.

That listing pic looks like the same finish as on my other Sigmas. Sucks that the price went up. I think Sigma knew they had a winner and got a little greedy.

the price raise could also be contributed to the Tsunami/Earthquake in Japan. I would guess the distributors saw this coming as production was halted. for those Canon guys, they were lucky to get theirs for about $800 when some retailers offered some cashback promo. anyways, I think I would still give this a go even if it's sold at $950. maybe Pentax could counter this by selling the FA77 for $650? decisions....decisions.....
