(mind you the 77 is a fair bit less expensive)
Well, they are about on par in Canada at street prices (although th 77 is easier to find used, which is less expensive).

But the sigma lens is way larger than the 77, so that's a good reason to go with the ltd, too.

I don't really see how the 85 1.4 could be sharper than the 77 wide open, but it would still be fun to see the differences.

I have to remember that Henry's is a bad deal.

Interesting... 770.

Well, I don't think there's any question that the FA*24 is superior to the Sigma 24. It's not so cut and dry with the 85's.
From everything that I have seen, I would pick the Sigma EX DG 24mm f/1.8 over the FA* 24mm every time.

why would you compare the price at a store that sold the Sigma at a much higher premium?

as far as the differences in prices between the two lenses in general is concerned, the difference is only from $30 to $130.

Very Nice!! I've been eyeing this lens from time to time. It would make a nice addition to the collection! I'm wondering what the difference is from the Samyang. I think the rokinon, matched or surpassed it in some areas in one review I read.

No difference at all. The Samyang is the original, and the Rokinon/Vivitar/Bower/etc are re-brandings of the same exact optics w/ different cosmetics.

Does the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 feature contacts for metering/exposure with Pentax cameras? Some of their other manual-focus lenses do.

I have to agree, even though I never shot with the Fa 24mm--I have seen plenty of pics. I once consdiered buying it, considering its Fa* designation and how precious 24mm is to me on APS-c, but my research quickly turned me away. Photozone rates it a 2 optically, describing the corners as "dismal" @ f2. The lens has some great contrast, which it needs considering the resolution failings. If I bled Pentax, I guess I would buy and use the lens, but there are too many other, better options in my opinion.

The FA*24 is one of the only * lenses I don't regret selling. My FA20 was sharper, the FA20-35 shot sharper with nicer color rendition...so much so that I bought another one recently. And believe me I'm an FA* Fanboy...the 24...not so much...

Nice wide open--amazing price to performance ratio. I own an Auto Takumar 85mm f1.8. While mechanically it is a work of art, its value is purely sentimental and I use it very little. I would be much better served by the Samyang, looking at these shots is convincing enough.

Note that those are on the D700, but I've seen similar results from Pentax dSLRs using it.

the introduction of the Sigma has somehow solved the needs of Pentax users for an AF fast 85mm lens that has been missing for a long time. although there is the FA77, it is still not an 85mm lens. so in a way, it is a game changer since Pentax users now have another option other than the FA*85. I would think that it has also affected the pricing of the FA77 which was retailed around $900 before. now it somehow sits from $650 (used) to $800 (BNIB).

the question is, will I get the Sigma in the future? Yes. although to which camera is still an enigma.
