Tokina 400mm f5.6 ATX AF worth picking up?

I found this lens from a shop locally and am thinking of getting it for birding. Anyone have any experience with it on the K5? or how it performs vs the sigma 120-400mm at the long end? i suspect that it will be used at f8 most often and i am a bit concerned about iq. advice or pics would be helpful.

read the minimal reviews... would like a bit more input. i suspected the f*300mm with a tc would give me better results and a pm seems to confirm it.

I have the MF one (SD version). I like it so far. I do get purple fringing some times

If the AF glass is better than the MF one, you would like it.

Thanks for the image link. Your images look good and i was on the fence. after talking to the guy he agreed that the f*300mm plus a tc was a better option (he's used both). So i've let it go. If anyone is interested in this lens and lives in Chicago area, his lens is in very nice condition and $380 (a very good deal). go here if you have an interest in it.
