A direct comparison betwen the 16-45 and 43mm ltd

16-45, 1/125s f/4.5 at 40.0mm iso400

43mm ltd, 1/125s f/4.0 at 43.0mm iso400

That's a center crop at 100% from the first series of comparisons between the two lenses. I realise the 16-45 is near wide open, so it's not at advantage... but this one is actually the closest it gets to the 43mm in iq.

I let the camera work out exposure on program mode, ASA 400, a rainy day. Camera jpeg, no post processing apart from the crop.

Wow!! thank you very much Nesster for this comparison! The 16-45 photo really seems like out of focus compared to the 43mm ltd. I wasn't expecting so much difference between both lenses in terms of sharpness. I'm also impressed of the lesser CAs produced by the 43 ltd (although I think they're a little higher than desirable).

The difference is larger than I expected, as the 16-45 on its own seems to do such a good job. I'll repeat the experiment more carefully today - looks to be sunny - and with a tripod.
