I have to say this thread has given me some serious food for thought, I've been fighting the urge to buy a wider prime since picking up my DA 40mm, its just so tiny and a cracker that I really want lots of expensive primes now......... I don't think my credit card can take it!

Thats a good idea its often hard to find images showing the lenses mounted on a body to get a size comparise, 12-24 isn't as big as I'd thought it might be actually,

Lol, yeah I've heard the hood is pretty spectacular, is it bigger or smaller than the one on the Sigma 10-20?

Yes, size on the camera doesn't bother me as much as size in the camera bag. I like the feel of my 18-135mm as much as my little FA 43mm Ltd, only when I start getting up to my 200mm lenses do they start feeling at all cumbersome.

To answer my own question on lens hood heres a pic fom elsewhere on here showing the Pentax 12-24 v the Sigma 10-20 and Pentax 16-45 complete with hoods.

12-24 hood is much larger than I expected it to be especially v the Sigma which I already thought had a relatively large lens hood!

Wow.. would be nice to squeeze a DA15 in that shot.. probably could fit across one of those lens caps.

Looking at that has made me consider the 12-24 again I never considered the 10-20 that large a lens probably because it feels relatively fixed it doesn't expand much even at 20mm, fair enough the hood is much larger but the 12-24 lens itself is a very similar size... that said I would like the smaller profile of the 15/21mm pancakes to be a little less standout with my camera to give me more confidence to try some street photography!
