The DA 40mm ltd dominates my thoughts

alt title: Ruminations of a Reformed LBA

I can't seem to get that sexy little body out of my mind. I see others with similar attributes; their F's and apertures are nearly the same. The test images look so close. In a couple of cases better, but they just don't have that cute little pug nose.

I wish it might only be 31-35, but, sometimes older or bigger is better.

If I don't date this one, I am always going to wish I had and say "what if" for many years to come. Better I think to waste a few dollars then to live with regret.

On a serious note:

I may as well joke about it since I can not not really justify almost twice the price in my penny-pincher mind. The DOF comps between the the DA-35 and the DA 40 LTD are so close as to not matter more than a foot step or two. The lens speeds are nearly identical.

I am basing my choice on:
*Build quality
*Perceived durability
*Perceived corner sharpness
*Compact size, easy to carry
*Extra blades stopped down may be an asset

So anyhow for better or worse, the deal is done, the order is placed.

I swear I am not off the wagon, ............................ yet.

Please post some sweet captures to support me.

That time of day is what I wanted to see. At my age I don't stay up real late anymore.

I take it you have enjoyed your choice?

I find I use the 15 more because I like wide, and the 70 as well. The 21 and 40, less so, but I'm glad I have them. (I'm old and rarely get up that early).

You will not regret getting the 40mm ltd. I shoot mainly prime lenses. I use the 40mm ltd as a walkabout lens with my K7. Its small size and super light weight adds almost nothing to the weight of the K7 and I can carry the camera for long hours without problem. I also have the 15mm ltd for landscapes, 21mm for indoors /close quarters and the 70mm ltd for portraits. For close up, I use an Olympus H.Q. close up addon lens on the 70mm.

Enjoy you new lens!

The DA 40 is a really fun lens, a really great lens, a really sexy lens, and, oh yeah, a really cheap lens!

It's just a wonderful gift .

Why is there such a huge variance in the prices in the review of this lens on this forum?

Tere are large variances in most of the lens' prices due to the price hike a few years ago.

The DA 40 is a good deal if it is less than 300.

The beauty of the DA 40 is its small size. It is quite sharp wide open, but of course, wide open is only f2.8. I sort of wish that Pentax had decided to make it f2 instead, even if it didn't make it one of the tinniest lenses currently available. Still, stick it on your camera and you can take it anywhere.

Nice photos all of you.

@Eagle_Friends what is the second photo. Very cool looking but what?

@selar I have felt your pain for weeks now. I hope to buy only one prime this time around and this was the choice.

For me I think 2.8 will be fast enough for my auto focus needs and I still have a 1.7 manual.
