Too much bullshit in this tread, too few pictures. If this continues I will buy the Sigma myself to compare it with the FA*.

Actually I have found a reputed German eBay seller who offered the 85mm f/1.4 Sigma, several of them and NIB of course, for 599 euros. To me that's a complete steal...

Don't be an idiot...
I didn't know one could become an idiot by discussing in a forum and expressing views, willing to gather information and learn new things. Which is what forums are there for.

Even if I were totally wrong with my previous post, what would happen? I would not lose my life. I would not lose a limb or two. I would not lose money (because I'm not a professional photographer). Hell, I would not even lose the subject I intended to shoot with my crop K7 sensor, having chosen to remain with the 50mm thinking it cannot be replaced by a 77mm (~ 50 * 1.5). Because 50mm is wider and it would still include the subject I intended to shoot. I lose nothing. So how does this make me an idiot? Explain...?

For your info, FoV has got to do nothing with perspective. A certain FL (Xmm) lens's perspective will be the same no matter what sensor you use it with. It can never be replaced for the same perspective by another FL (Ymm) lens just because the FoV is the same. Perspective is what you see and how the subject appears through that FL at that subject distance. Do you mean to say you use an 18mm lens to get a shot and step back to fit the same FoV with a 500mm lens and you'll get the same perspective??? Try it out and then tell me, according to your own standards, who the idiot is?

This is easy to demonstrate, too. The 30-35mm is the "approximate normal" for the APS/C sensors according to the 1.4/1.5 "crop factor"; but try this: Put a 35mm lens on your Pentax, hold the camera vertically, and open both eyes. Now do the same thing with a 50mm on the camera.
Agreed. I know what you are talking about and it's FoV. But I'm behind the perspective I get from the 85mm vs the 50/55mm. 77mm must be the same for all practical purposes.

Sigma is rumored to be releasing a 135mm f/2 which should also be a really good lens and give Pentax users a ~200mm prime.

(and I don't mean "eek"!)

If this is true, sigma is my hero when it comes to glass. Pentax can release all the consumer zooms and cheap plastic primes they want () as long as someone gives us what we want

I don't care if its massive, I want it (more than the 85mm? )

It's the Euclid geometry, very simple. Should I show you a proof?

Yes. I love geometry. Bring it on! We'd all like to see where your ideas are from.

I think this is important, since we are talking about a real world test of the Sigma 85mm F1.4, and someone is trying to tell us why this lens is not needed in the real world for APS-C.

Good luck..

I hope that geometric formula can solve or equate the perspective differences of these images taken by corresponding lens focal lengths...

now, can we see some images if that formula works?

I'm not sure if this rumor would become a reality, but if it does, that would be great. for now, the upcoming Sigma 150 macro would suffice.
Rumor is Sigma is releasing 3 more "pro" grade primes for FF bodies. 24mm, 35mm, & 135mm.

The final lineup will be:
24mm
35mm f/1.4
50mm f/1.4 (current)
85mm f/1.4 (current)
135mm f/2
150mm f/2.8 OS Macro (on its way)

Look at the cost for the latest 24mm & 35mm pro-grade glass from Sony/Zeiss, Nikon & Canon. There is definite room for Sigma to enter the market.

The 135mm f/2.0 is basically a fast 200mm prime on your Pentax. You get the lens that renders like a 135mm, has the DoF of the 135mm, the size and weight of the 135mm, but the reach of a 200mm. It is a good length for indoor sports and F/2 is welcome in those indoor venues.

As a long time Canon user you could not have paid me to take Sigma lenses on a job. Nothing about the old Sigma lenses appealed to me. Since the new 50mm f/1.4 and HSM I have been very impressed with what they have produced.
