I have 50-135mm and that is a great lens. About 16-50 I'm a little mixed so it isn't in my bag anymore.

Loren,

I have the 16-50 and the 60-250 as well for some time now.
If I compare these lenses, I can make some remarks:

Optics:
The 60-250mm is a better lens than the 16-50mm sharpness wise.
The 16-50 is soft in the corners at f2.8. What disappears at f4.
The 60-250mm is sharp all the way, also at the long end.

Auto Focus:
The AF system of the 16-50 is *much* faster than the 60-250 AF.
It takes the right more time to turn.

For me having the 50-135 is not a big option. With a K-5 there is always light enough for f4.

Cheers,

- Bert

We share the same sentiment... SDM issues posted online kept me from buying the 50-135mm before and opted for a Sigma 70-200mm instead (don't regret about this since I prefer the 200mm reach).

There are also so good (old) online reviews about the 16-50mm as well.... but after reading and checking out real world pictures of actual users, I decided to pull the trigger.

I do really like my 60-250, I just wonder at times if it would be far more pleasant to carry around the 50-135 all day and if I would not miss that extra reach too much...is 135 vs 250 night and day in the reach department for shooting wildlife?

Just took my 16-50 for a quick spin... iso 1600 all the way as it's an indoor event... f2.8 is a bit soft as expected. But just stop down to f3.5 or higher and you'll be blown away.

Debunks a LOT of online reviews stating that it's only marginally better than the 16-45. I've used a that lens for a few years (even tweaked it's focusing to be a perfect match to the K10D)... it's quite a good lens for it's price but it won't match the 16-50.

Can't wait to try this one out at lower ISO speeds or on the K20D (which produces better detail retention at iso1600).

One comment though... low-light focusing didn't really improve that much compared to the 16-45... but at least it's silent.

That's how I've always felt, too.
