Tamron 17-50 f2.8

Is this a good lens?for portrait and landscape?

Look at "the Tammy club" thread...you'll find landscape,portraits, etc made with the lens...
It has a good rep and it's difficult to beat it pricewise, so i would say it's a good buy.

As was recommended to me, I would advise that you buy it new because you'll get Tamron's full warranty. Sometimes this lens (as you look at many comments on this forum...including with my experience) have issues with front and back focusing problems. With a warranty these will be taken care of. From what I've seen though, a good copy of this lens really is superb for the price.

I have that lens on my K-x and it rarely leaves my camera! I shoot wide open quite frequently (that's what I bought it for!) and find it sharp.
