I personally think it's really unfortunate that Pentax didn't just keep selling the FA 35mm for < $300. In comparison the price of the DA 35mm f/2.4 with its plastic mount seems less than exciting. I really don't get why they would put the effort into developing that lens when they already had a good, faster lens with the development costs paid that wasn't that much more expensive.

I just received the FA35/2 today from BH. Very nice lens. Not a LTD construction, but it's very sturdy, lightweight, and about twice the length of a FA43. AF is screw driven and therefore noisy. But the focus travel is short and the AF is fast. So the noise from the screw driven AF is not nearly as painful as the one from the FA100 WR.

Took a couple of photos with it here in the office, and focus appears to be right on and sharp wide open. Stopped it down to F4, and things look super super sharp.

Lens comes with a bayonet hood and a padded case.

So far, it seems to be an economical and good alternative to the FA31 Ltd.

I was just browsing B&H and to my great surprise the discontinued 20-35mm f/4 and FA 35mm f/2 lenses are listed as in-stock (for $660 and $475 respectively). No mention of these that I can see on the Pentax website.
The FA 35/2 is a very nice lens. I paid around $350 for a used one around a year ago. I seen new ones go for$ 475 in the auction site.

It is worth it.

Well I think the FA 20-35 is just fantastic. But I don't know about $675... :-) It is much smaller than the DA*16-50, and very lightweight. But IQ is really nice. True the speed is less than is desirable, but I just sold my 31 to use the 20-35 more.

I forgot about the DA 45mm wide zoom. It's around half the price and wider range. Never used it so don't know about the size or image quality.
Could there be some merit to the Full Frame discussion?

I paid $289 for my FA 20-35 in near-mint condition (but without hood) from a reputable dealer in Japan.

If anyone is willing to pay 660 - PLEASE - PM me first! You can totally have mine for $550...

It's a great lens, but economics is economics.

I agree! The current BH price is nearly 2x what it should be. It is an excellent lens on film as far as zooms go.

Demand is often driven by fads and/or people with more money than sense.

I am loving the FA35! This is my first Pentax keeper lens after having tried five different other lenses and returned them all (for different reasons). Here's a photo shot with the K-5, wide open at F2.

I too was surprised a few days ago to see the FA 35/2.0 for sale new at B&H.

I got a NOS FA 35/2.0 from Korea via eBay in December 2009 for $335 plus shipping. I thought that was fine value. Very nice lens on either cropped digital or full-frame film. Not feeling rich enough to consider the FA Limited 31/1.8!

The FA 20-35/4.0 has the advantage over the rare (and pricey) FA 20/2.8 of lower geometric distortion. Obviously the cost is lens speed.

Adorama recently sold a pair of Pentax-refurbished FA 20-35/4.0's on eBay for $349 each. That was a great deal, they sold fast. I would have bought one if I didn't already have one.

I have an FA 20-35 I recently bought in dog-chewed condition on eBay for $108, it's at Eric's having the front group replaced once the parts come in from Japan.

Yeah, both of these lenses are marvels of "engineering plastic", just like my MZ-3. But, hey, they are light!

$675 is a bargain.

Saw that myself last night. I don't know what that guy is smoking.

However, a lot of ebay prices lately are WAY inflated. I guess there's enough stupid people out there that are willing to pay too much for something.
