Just ordered my Sigma 150-500mm

Phew! Spending that much money on myself feels... just wrong. But I hope I will have lots and lots of fun with it.

Bird are migrating now, easter holiday is coming up - my timing is good!

It will arrive (hopefully) from the UK in four days. I'm holding my breath...

Sounds like a treat, especially with the migration about to get in gear . Besides that is an item which you'll use for years and years and even after that it has most of its value left. Also, a happy you is a treat to those people to whose immediate benefit the money might have been used otherwise.

Thanks jolepp - any help with rationalising my spending is greatly appreciated!

Also, I will definitely get up early and bake fresh bread for breakfast for everybody tomorrow. Nothing like guilt to inspire you to be a more considerate mom/spouse, is there?

I felt the same way when I got mine. Got over it. Felt the same way with a 4-pack of DA Limiteds. Got over it...:-)

The 150-500 is a nice lens.

Congrats on a really nice lens! I felt no guilt about getting my 150-500 because I had been pre-authorized by the boss (spouse)!

Enjoy your new lens!!!

I got a previous version a couple years ago, an APO DGL 170-500/5-6.2 that I call the Lil'Bigma. Paid retail, too. Ouch. Haven't used it nearly enough. Haven't been out enough in places where it would be useful. What was I thinking? But I'll journey far and long in a few weeks, so maybe / hopefully it will see some action.

Thanks everyone!

SpecialK: When I get over this, maybe the k5 will have dropped in price a bit... Anyway, it would all be easier (morally, not economically) if my husband had any sort of expensive hobby. It's all his fault for being too sensible! But at least I don't buy a lot of shoes or handbags...

fccwpe: I was definitely pre-authorized for this one too... otherwise I would have never dared tell him, and it's just way too big a lens to smuggle around without him noticing

RioRico: I have a two week easter holiday coming up, going to the north tip of Denmark where all the migrating birds pass through - so I hope to give it a good start.

It has arrived!

I have to say: Wow, it is huge. Since several of you own this... thing, may I ask how you carry it? I would like a solution that allows me to bring it as hand luggage on planes and carry it some kilometers without cramps in my shoulders - it that achievable without magic?

I was looking at this pack, since I spend all my cash on the lens already: Do you think it's big enough?

AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR Cameras and accessories: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Any help appreciated. And when I leave work today, I am going to PLAY with it! Wheeeee!

Definitely looking for your thoughts on IQ and AF. I am looking for a roadracing lens for this year. Now the Sigma 100-300 is discontinued I'm not sure what to go after?

How do you find the new lens? (Does it have "my pride&joy" / family member status yet? )

So what is the verdict on the AF speed of the lens? Looking to use it for motorcyle road racing? Do you think a sigma 100-300 f4 w/ tc would yield better results?
