best 28mm for the money

Ive been looking for a 28mm 2.8 for a while now and wanted to know what you guys thought is the best for the money. I really don't need AF (nor do i want to pay for it right now). although being an "A" lens would be nice M is fine.

I have compared some 28mm lenses recently and found the M 28/2.0 to be superior in terms of sharpness/contrast to all others, incl. the FA28. The difference is not big though.
The best image quality for the money you will get with the K28/3.5, if you don't need the speed.
Everything tested with the K10D.

I had a Super-Takumar 28mm f/3.5 that was a wonderful little lens, but I'm sure the K-mount versions are virtually identical optically, and more convenient (no M42 adapter needed). But you'll never match the build quality and smooth focus of Pentax's old screwmount lenses.

Since I spent the morning doing a bit of testing, you might want to see some results from my SMC-A 28mm 2.8 vs. a couple of other lenses.

28mm at 100%:

43mm at 100%, same location:

Oops that 43mm sample is at f1.9, here's the f6.3 version that's at the same f stop as the 28mm:

I have owned M28/3.5, A28/2.8 and FA28/2.8 and have since sold the A28/2.8. I like the color from M28/3.5 better and it is quite sharp wide open. FA28/2.8 has the advantage of AF and is sharp enough wide open but not as contrasty as the M28/3.5. You can get M28/3.5 for $100 or less. FA28/2.8 goes for a lot more as I don't think it is in production anymore.

Sigma 28/2.8 mini wide

I recently bought the Sigma 28/2.8 mini-wide MF lens to use with the K10D, anyone having any info about it!? How does it perform compared to the pentax-m 28/2.8 and 3.5?
Are there any good web pages about older sigma MF lenses on the net?

I have a RMC Tokina 28MM F2.8 , and I really like it. I have not tried any others, but it seems to perform pretty well for me. It is well built < all metal I believe > Has a smooth focus ring, and a 52MM filter thread, so all of your filters for the kit lens will fit it too.. Oh, and i paid less than $30.00 for it shipped.

Here are a few samples.
