DA* weather sealing question...

As a new Pentax K10D user coming from a Canon/Nikon background, is a filter needed to complete the weather sealing on a DA* lens?

For Canon L and sealed Nikon lenses, the front element is still considered a possible point of ingress for dirt/water and a filter is usually recommended. Wasn't sure if this is also true of the DA* lenses too, especially with the special lens coating.

Not that I'm aware of, nothing said about it from Pentax that I've seen, and I don't have any filter on my DA*.

Its been soaked a few times already, nothing got into front element.

No filter needed. You can refer to the photos in this link posted some months back in rainy Singapore to give you an idea of the weather sealing.

Hands-on with the two DA* zoom lenses :D - ClubSNAP Photography Forums

Or the ruggedness of the K10D (not for the faint-hearted or those who baby their equipment)

This is why you want K10D

Thanks very much. Nice, nice examples in the ClubSNAP forum. Looking outside today from a very rainy Vancouver, I'm thinking that DA* lenses might be in the cards for me.

I am out in Coquitlam and have had my K10D/DA* 16-50 out in the rain a few times and it handles the 'Wet' Coast no only if my 31mm Limited was the same...
