Takumar 50 f4 macro

was looking at buying a takumar macro 50 f4. don't know the price yet but was wanting to buy it as a lens that would be good for garden flowers, etc. how close can the macro get you? I think it is 1:1 but not sure. any macro pics would be great too. As a screw mount, how do I go about putting it on my K10D?
can it do insects?

thanks

randy

The original takumar preset 50mm F4 macro was 1:1. All other 50mm macros (super taks etc.) were only 1:2

50/4 working distance for 1:1 version is 0.208m, for 1:2 versions is 0.234m. That is fine for flowers but can be too close for some insects, especially mid-day

Genuine Pentax M42-K adapter is usually recommended over 3rd party brands because some of those have problems. 3rd party can cost less, if a known-good production.

I think you'll enjoy whichever version you get -- they are a pleasure to use and give good results from macro to infinity.

About 8 for the 1:1, 9 inches for the 1:2. If the seller is clueless, you can look for those metric numbers engraved on the focus ring. The presets have twin aperture rings at the front of the lens; non-presets will have the aperture ring next to the mount. It should be easy to figure out from a photo.
