18-135mm WR lens on a K10d?

I've been thinking about getting a good used K10d to play with and maybe the new 18-135mm WR lens. Anyone use this combo? Would the new lens help with the K10d's sluggish AF speed? I'm missing Pentax a little (better colors) and might slowly get back.

Well, it's a nice lens, should be good in bright light, at least, but for general AF speed, a bit later than like a 2005 model might be a better bet, or a faster lens.

That piece of glass is a little pricey (and zoomey, for that matter) for most who'd still be shooting K10ds, so you might be waiting a while for experience.

There's no reason to think that the new lens is going to change the autofocus performance of our K10D's. It's not a magic bullet after all. It's just an OK all in one (mini) superzoom. (I say mini because there are lots of lenses that go way beyond 7X now a days)

Well there is a good reason to suspect the AF could be faster, as SDM/DC lens focus speeds seem to be dependant on the lens motors and not the body, eg, the K-5 did nothing to speed up the 50-135 SDM focusing speeds is my understanding.

Whether that also holds true for the K10 I don't know. Whether the DC motor is as quick as screw drive focus on a faster body I also don't know.

I did not find the lens to be up to my needs on a k200d. I feel that the 18-135 was made for cameras with in-body corrections for CA, above 100mm it was too obvious in straight shots - but if you like PP work and/or your copy is less prone to it than mine was, have at it!

How does the IQ of the 18-135 compare to your Sigma 17-70 and your Pentax 50-200?

My impresion when it was released was that it has excellent IQ for a super zoom, but the more reports that come in from users the more it seems that just isn't the case, that it is only par with the 18-55, 50-200 IQ and not a step up.

Thats what I was thinking, plus the WR seals are a big selling point. I will get a K10d and either the 18-13mm WR lens or a Sigma 17-70mm OS HSM, not sure yet. I'm leaning toward the WR lens.

In all seriousness, I've been very happy with my 18-135WR so far. I don't have the 18-55 nor the 50-200 anymore to directly compare them, but my overall impression is that the 18-135WR is at least on par with them, but most likely better. The AF is really fast, although I've only tried it on a K-5 so I can't specifically comment on how the speed would be on the K10D.
