Its an interesting question. I have thought about this myself.
More specifically I was interested in how the 50-135 compares to the FA 50-77-100-135 lineup that coves the same range.

I belive the general conclusion is as usual that the primes are better, but the question, as always, is how much better, if we ignore the speed advantages of the 43/50 and 77 and compare from f2.8 and up. Certainly the 50-135 is very good. It is a fact that it does perform less at the long end, so it is better equipped to fight with the FA 50 than with the FA 135.

One thing I was interested in though, the 50-135 is supposedly a Portrait Zoom. indeed it covers the portrait range. Portrait lenses normally have slightly different characteristics than other lenses, such as being softer in the corners, or in general having nice rendering for portraits. The Fa 77 and Fa 85 are superb portrait lenses. I havent seen a lot of portraits from the 50-135 yet, and by that I mean real portraits, not snapshots of people. If I got one myself then portraits would be what I would use it for.

Back to your question. I think if you like the versality of the 50-135 then just go for it, its also weather sealed and has SDM which are added benefits and you dont have to change lenses. Surely it should be good eanough for all but the most critical.

thanks alot i think ill go with the 50-135 for now and maybe the 77 limited later on down the line. i was just looking for a good lens that is versitile and wont have to be changed frequently at a wedding or event.
